Oswaldtwistle is a large, typical Lancashire village lying close to the urban sprawl of Blackburn and Accrington. Sport is very much in focus here, for this is the home of Church and Oswaldtwistle Cricket Club. The club’s history began in 1858 on land behind a pub called the Pickup Arms. It later moved to its present location in West End, Oswaldtwistle. Since then, it has managed to acquire the ground from its owners – the Dunkenhalgh Estate, added to its buildings and facilities, making it one of the foremost grounds in the Lancashire Cricket League!

Visitors will find plenty of places to relax, Oswaldtwistle Shopping Centre has restaurants and cafes, there are pubs including the very pleasant Standhill. Golfing enthusiasts will find a challenging course at Cocker Brook, and close by places to see include Darwen lakes, the Textiles Museum, Gawthorpe Hall, with the enchanting River Ribble on the other side of Blackburn being well worth seeing.
